Subject: RE: Sanders Reserve - tomorrow at 9
Thanks Margaret
I went today for a walk, I suggest for anyone coming tomorrow gumboots or boots are ideal.
We can go through it tomorrow but these are my views so far.
I have a few policy thoughts for tomorrow in light of what I have seen.
1. I don’t support any more planting this year or next on any open mowable space.
2. I do support planting that was done in prior years on the ‘horse’ side. That is great planting
between existing bush and the bike paths and horse tracks in areas that are inaccessible to
mowers. Sus pare and the volunteers have done a good job in the past, but it’s the ‘open
space’ planting on ‘mown grass’ that I have issues with.
3. I do think that some of the planting done this year and last year will need to be moved to be
lower, it is far too close up to the Kiosk and will block the views
I note the fol owing too
• There is space for planting on ‘sloping open ground’ to the side where a tractor has
skidded. However, that’s probably only a few hundred plants.
• There is lots of space for infill planting on the ‘horse’ side around where planting has
happened but this hasn’t been prepped for this year – grass is long
• There are also a few gully’s with a lot of gorse that are unmowable which if prepped could
be planted in the future.
• There are two small gully’s on this years planting side that are plantable as not mowable, but
they currently have knee high grass and haven’t been prepped.
• The sus pare volunteer organisers are having to make space for the ‘bike trails’ that we
haven’t even approved yet. This seems unorganised.
So I don’t honestly know how any planting is going to happen for the next three planting days unless
prep in these infill areas are able to happen prior to the weekend. We need to ask Dan how soon
they can prep the ground or be prepared to cancel the planting days until a plan can be done.
I think no more planting in new grassy areas until we have an agreed on plan, and in my opinion the
new plan would only al ow infill planting in gullys that are hard to mow.
I have also been talking to some people working in the Dog Area park cutting and pasting
gorse. They are working in the Dog Part and then will work in the other part. One of them
mentioned today that they are doing a ‘long term plan’ for weeds in the reserve this afternoon with
‘Landscape Solutions’. Ideally in my mind the long term plan would include clearing gorse from
gul ys, especial y on the horse side, so they can be planted.
I’ve spoken to about 10 walkers over the weekend and today and they al said the view should be
preserved.
See you tomorrow
Anna

Subject: FW: Sanders Reserve - tomorrow at 9
Sent from my Galaxy
Hi Anna
The management plan section confirms what I have said on several occasions
That the intent was to leave the grassed areas as open areas and this is also the memory of residents
who were around at that time who stil live out here, hence the questions and disappointment from
them.
During the visit you and I had on Thursday after the workshop the comments from the ladies walking
adjacent to the proposed 2022 area to be planted was interesting when they said oh no that should
be left as an open area.
So I support your view that no planting should occur in that area currently proposed for 2022. I have
attached pics of that area for Nic and Uzra who are unable to attend on Tuesday. As you can see it is
not a steep area and Anna's kids and puppy Kiko were having a ball.
I also feel that the area for the 2021 is now largely planted so would only reluctantly support infill
planting there.
I have received a comment from another lady over the weekend who is concerned at al the planting
in the 2021 area as she said once that area planting is established she will not feel safe walking down
and around that track as she will not be able to be seen from the top so would feel unsafe.
Anna you asked about a development plan. To my knowledge there has not been one presented to
the board.
I am hoping the weather wil be kind to us tomorrow so we can have a good walk.
Margaret
