Dear Andrew

YOUR OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT (1982) REQUEST HBDHB REF: OIA2021179

I refer to your Official Information Act request transferred to district health boards by the Ministry of
Health on 22 December 2021 where you requested information from Hawke’s Bay District Health Board
(HBDHB). Your questions and HBDHB’s response is provided below:

•  Guidelines/procedure for investigating possible Colonic Motility Dysfunction/Defecatory
Disorders/Anorectal Dysfunction
•  What are the Guidelines/procedures for patients repeatedly admitted to Emergency Department
with severe epigastric pain/ and upper right and left quadrant pain
•  What are the official Guidelines/procedures for urgent X-rays (24 hour)

Hawke’s Bay DHB does not hold any specific guidelines/procedures in relation to any of the above specified
proceudres. Thefefore, we decline your request under s18 (e) of the Act relating to information that does
not exist.

Please note Hawke’s Bay DHB does not perform any of the procedures outlined in question one.

While the DHB does not have any guidelines/procedures for patients who repeatedly present to ED with
severe epigastric pain/ and upper right and left quadrant pain, for some repeat adult admissions for this
kind of pain patient, they will have a multi-disciplinary management plan in place.  Other patients may
have discussions with one of the senior ED doctors.  Each patient will be assessed and treated on a case-by-
case basis depending on their clinical need.

For X-rays taken while a patient is in the emergency department these are completed during the patients
ED visit.

I trust this information meets your needs. If you would like any further information or clarification please
