I am responding on behalf of Taranaki District Health Board (DHB) to your OIA requests of 
24 November 2021 which were transferred to Taranaki DHB on 22 December 2021 by the Ministry of Health.  
You have requested the following information: 
 
•  What are the official guidelines/procedures for urgent X-rays (24 hour)? 
 
Taranaki DHB does not have any official guidelines for urgent x-rays as this is would be dependent on 
the clinical scenario. 
 
•  What are the guidelines/procedures for patients repeatedly admitted to the Emergency Department 
with severe epigastric pain/and upper right and left quadrant pain? 
 
Taranaki DHB does not have specific official guidelines for recurrent presentations for abdominal pain 
as this would be dependent on the clinical scenario. 
 
•  Guidelines/procedures  for  investigating  possible  Colonic  Motility  Dysfunction/Defecatory 
Disorders/Anorectal Dysfunction. 
 
Taranaki  DHB  does  not  have  specific  guidelines  for  motility  disorders  however  can  carry  out  the 
following motility testing via nuclear medicine testing: 
o  Gastric emptying study  
o  Colonic motility study (an x-ray marker study can also be done for colonic motility)  
 
Other  tests  are  sent  to  other  DHBs  on  a  case  by  case  basis  e.g.  oesophageal  rectal  manometry, 
defecating proctograms, oesophageal impedence studies.
