Thank  you  for  your  request  made  under  the  Official  Information  Act  1982  (the  Act), 
received on 18 October 2021. You requested the following: 
 
… “a figure and a percentage of income tax paid by taxpayers who are on Work Visa/ 
Resident status/Permanent residence status/Immigrants with respect to the total income 
tax. The years required for 2018/ 2019/2020/2021” 
 
Unfortunately, we do not gather information on citizenship in our tax system, as it is not 
required for tax purposes.  New Zealand uses tax residency to determine taxing rights. 
Information about tax residency can be found on our general website, ird.govt.nz. 
 
You may wish to direct your enquiries to Statistics New Zealand. 
 
I  therefore  must  refuse  your  request  under  the  provisions  in  section  18(e)  of  the  Act
