Dear Raja
Thank you for your email of 1 October 2021 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
(the Ministry), requesting following information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):
I wish to know the 165000 immigrants who are eligible for residency their nationality in
percentage-wise or total number.
Additional to that how many Indian immigrants have come in the last 3 years from 29
September 2021.
The timeframe for responding to your request was extended until 29 November 2021 under section
15A(1)(a) of the Act.
Our response
I wish to know the 165000 immigrants who are eligible for residency their nationality in percentage-
wise or total number
In the below table, we have provided the number of people on eligible visas but this does not
necessarily mean all people listed will qualify for residence under the skilled, settled or scarce
criteria. Partners and children who do not hold an eligible visa may be included in a residence
application as a secondary applicant.
Details for nationalities that have five or less people on eligible visas have been withheld under section
9(2)(a) of the Act, to protect individuals’ privacy.
I am satisfied that, in the circumstances, the withholding of this information is not outweighed by other
considerations that render it desirable to make the information available in the public interest.

Some people in NZ on Critical Purpose Visitors visas were also eligible for the pathway – these people are not counted.
The number includes people in New Zealand on work visas outside of the eligible criteria for the one-off residence
pathway (e.g. RSE (Recognised Seasonal Employer) and WHS (Working Holiday Scheme).
