Dear A Boocock
Information Request – Adverts for Group Manager positions
I refer to your follow-up questions dated 12 January 2022 which was in relation to our response on
11 January 2022. You requested under the Official Information Act 1982 (
OIA), information about
the recent restructure at Fire and Emergency New Zealand.
In accordance with the provisions of the OIA, we have set out your new requests and our
responses below.
Request 1
Please supply a copy of the changed Group Manager advertisement fol owing the removal of the
statement which excluded those who had previously applied from reapplying, including the exact
date at which this changed advertisement was made visible on the portal. I am referring to the GM
advertisements for the second round of redeployment-first round of recruitment, initially
advertised around 23 April 2021.
Fire and Emergency’s response
Fire and Emergency New Zealand maintains our initial position that this information does not exist.
The advertisement was changed was during the second round of recruitment in August, not in the
first round in April. Once a person had been deemed ineligible for redeployment, they were not
able to reapply through redeployment processes for the same position. Instead, they were able to
reapply in August for any remaining roles.
Request 2
It is apparent from your response that there was some communication within FENZ around this
issue once it was drawn to the attention of senior managers. Please supply copies of this
correspondence.
Fire and Emergency’s response
We have provided internal communications around this issue, which discuss how we wil respond
to the NZPFU regarding this issue. See the attached PDF document. This is an internal email
exchange.
We have withheld communications with our external legal adviser, as these are withheld under
section 9(2)(h) of the Official Information Act 1982 to maintain legal professional privilege.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
Information about how to make a complaint is available
at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or
