Parking infringements Thorndon and Pipitea
Thank you for your request made under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987
(the Act), received on 28 September 2021.
1) How many parking infringement notices were issued to vehicles parked in resident-only parking spaces
in Thorndon and Pipitea between 1 August 2021 and 28 September 2021 inclusive.
Additional to publishing the information, please enable download of this information digital y in
spreadsheet format (date, nature of the infringement, an indication whether resident parking permit was
displayed on the vehicle windscreen, name of the suburb, name of the street)
During this time there were 61 infringements in total, a full breakdown is in the attached spreadsheet.
Unfortunately, our ticketing system does not capture Pipitea as a suburb therefore we are unable to provide
infringements issued to streets in the Pipitea area. However, our permits are issued to allocated zones
dependent on where the applicant resides, Thorndon is one such zone. We have run data during this time
frame for all resident parking infringements issued to vehicles in the Thorndon area. If you would like to
present a list of specific streets in the Pipitea area for us to search for infringement notices, we would be
happy to do so.
2) How many inquiries to Parking Services were made related to vehicles al egedly parked il egal y in
resident-only parking spaces in Thorndon between 1 August 2021 and 28 September 2021 inclusive. How
many of these cal s resulted in an infringement notice being issued?
3) How many inquiries (any form) to Parking Services were made related to vehicles al egedly parked
illegally in resident-only parking spaces in Pipitea between 1 August 2021 and 28 September 2021
inclusive. How many of these cal s resulted in an infringement notice being issued?
As above, we are unable to use Pipitea as a search function. In the Thorndon area a total of 22 complaints
were received, of those five complaints resulted in infringements being issued.
4) Throughout the recent COVID Level 4/3 lockdowns WCC resident parking permits continued to be
approved but the permit stickers were not unable to be printed and therefore could not be affixed to
vehicle windscreens. How many permits were issued during the period 18 August 2021 - 28 September
2021 inclusive for resident-only parking in Thorndon? How many of these permit stickers are not securely
adhered to the windscreen of the approved vehicle? 5) How many permits were issued during this period
for resident-only parking in Pipitea? How many of these permit stickers are not securely adhered to the
windscreen of the approved vehicle?
As mentioned above, we are unable to provide a breakdown of Pipitea parking infringements.
A total of 67 resident permits were issued to vehicles for the Thorndon zone.
Through-out the recent lockdown and alert level three the Council continued to process requests for al
types of parking permits, including those related to residents parking. Restrictions on our ability to enter
our building during this period meant that paper-based permits were not able to be printed.
As we moved down alert levels and it was safe for staff to enter onto the premises again, our Parking
Permit team started work on printing the permits that were issued during lockdown. Once printed the
permits were sent to the mail room for delivery.
Unfortunately, I am unable to confirm how many of these permit stickers are not securely adhered to the
windscreen of the approved vehicle, once the permit is posted to the applicant it is their responsibility to
ensure to permit is displayed.
