Act
Caveats to data
• The month an application was received has been determined by when it was entered into the citizenship system. Please note that depending on
the volume of incoming paper applications, there may have been a delay of days to weeks between when an application arrived in an office and
when it was entered into the system. Online applications are received in the system immediately once the customer submits their application.
• The reason why there are less applications waiting to be allocated compared to the number received for the more recent of the months when
the processing queue was only up to Jan/Feb 2021 is due to three primary factors -
1. Some applications received in the month will have been withdrawn so are no longer listed as waiting to be allocated.
Information
2. Some applications will have been approved for urgent processing so will have progressed past the waiting for allocation stage.
3. If a customer has asked for their application to be amended then a citizenship trained Life and Identity Services Officer will edit the
application which will temporarily take it off waiting for allocation before going back in the queue once this has been done.
• Despite ceremonies not having taken place, applicants who were approved for citizenship are sent their certificate in the mail and are then
considered New Zealand citizens - the same as if they had attended a ceremony.
