We refer to your request under the Official Information Act dated 3 September 2021 in relation to 
entry to the University of Otago’s professional programmes via Health Sciences First Year (HSFY). 
 
By email dated 10 September 2021, you agreed to limit the scope of your request to the highest 
academic score to receive an offer and the minimum academic score to receive an offer (first round 
and waitlist) overall to the 2021 MB ChB and BDS programmes via HSFY for the Refugee sub-
category. 
 
 
We set out our responses to your questions below. 
 
For context, we note that HSFY students vary in the competitive-entry health professional 
programmes that they apply for, that students may apply for more than one programme, and that 
not all HSFY students apply for these programmes. Please also note that not all applicants who 
received an offer will have accepted their offer – e.g. they may have elected to study a different 
programme or at a different institution. 
 
 
Highest academic score to receive an offer to the 2021 MB ChB programme via HSFY for 
the Refugee sub-category. 
 
The highest academic score to receive an offer (waitlist or first-round) to the 2021 MB ChB 
programme via HSFY for the Refugee sub-category was 98.71. 
 
Minimum academic score to receive an offer to the 2021 MB ChB programme via HSFY for 
the Refugee sub-category. 
 
The minimum academic score to receive an offer (waitlist or first-round) to the 2021 MB ChB 
programme via HSFY for the Refugee sub-category was 77.14. 
 
Highest academic score to receive an offer to the 2021 BDS programme via HSFY for the 
Refugee sub-category. 
 
The highest academic score to receive an offer (waitlist or first-round) to the 2021 BDS programme 
via HSFY for the Refugee sub-category was 98.71. 
 

Minimum academic score to receive an offer to the 2021 BDS programme via HSFY for the 
Refugee sub-category. 
 
The minimum academic score to receive an offer (waitlist or first-round) to the 2021 BDS 
programme via HSFY for the Refugee sub-category was 77.57.
