Subject: Te Reo and English switch - Decision
Hi Dwight,
We’ve taken David P through the 2nd /3rd Level graphical elements (switching Te Reo/English)
and we have gained agreement that we don’t need to do these changes for our 2020 Travel
Documents.
Information
Cammie on the back of this decision can you please take Ray through the Te Reo/English swap
(level 1) in the sample travel document to make sure that we haven’t made any translation
errors and report back to us all.
Kind regards,
Lucinda

Hi Lucinda,
I should also note that there some 2nd/3rd level graphical elements where there is limited
1982
gain/improvements in making a switch at this level.
For example, a complex linework patterns comprised of UV micotext may be comprised of
alternating English/Maori. To your point, this will require close review to ensure there are no
errors.
Thanks
Dwight

Subject: FW: Te Reo and English switch - need to understand impact
Hi there,
I’m thinking that as CBN has more work to do on the Te Reo/English switch (Level 2 and level 3
layers) it doesn’t make sense to (me) run the changes as per the sample book via Ray (what we
want to check is that we haven’t made any translation faux pas by switching the words) as we
Released
will need to do this again for the level 2 and 3 components. Let me know if anyone thinks
differently.
Kind regards,
Lucinda

Hi Lucinda,
In terms of effort, it would likely add 2 weeks to the overall design effort. That said, I believe can
run the activity in parallel to the other datapage activities without impacting the overall
schedule.
Also, I have attached the updated POC schedule reflecting Louise’s visit on the 19th. Mike Delich
Information
is currently making arrangements to be there at the same time.
Cheers
Dwight

Subject: Te Reo and English switch - need to understand impact
Hi Dwight,
1982
I asked Louise to seek guidance from David Philp on the switching of Te Reo and English and if
this was limited to the visual text (as developed in the proposal sample travel document). What
we need to understand is what is the impact if we need to switch all the Te Reo and English in all
levels 1, 2 and 3 (including nanotext if there is Te Reo in there).
Please let me know if you need any further clarification.
Thanks Louise for following up for me….
Kind regards,
Lucinda

I checked in with David and his assumption had been that all text in English would be preceded in
Te Reo Māori. He appreciates that we need to understand the impact of this. Also, we are not
sure what is on the nanotext…..

Hi Katrina
That’s great news!
I could drop by this afternoon and pick it up.
I’ll give a call this afternoon during the next break. If we don’t line up today, definitely tomorrow.

Hi Dwight
Yes, I have four of the design elements that David has signed.
Do you know what time you have breaks?
I’ll be away from desk between 11:50am and 1:15pm ish. Otherwise I should be around all day.
My cell is
 if you need it.

Hi Katrina
That’s perfect and understood.
Will there be any approved materials to bring back to Ottawa?
If so, I can slip out from the meeting during the coffee break or lunch to pick it up.

Kia ora Dwight
I have had all of the Te Reo and English text flips double checked.
All ok to go for DOS and ETD for the text flip on the whole book, besides bio data.
Hope that makes sense J
