Thank you for your email of 13 June 2021 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and
Employment (MBIE) requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the fol owing
information:
The March 2021 agreement between MBIE and Te Kāhui o Taranaki Iwi referenced in this
article:https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/local-democracy-
reporting/125323106/iwi-partnership-to-ease-plugging-of-tui-oilfield. If this document is
publicly available, I would appreciate it if you could provide me with a link to it.
This article also states: 'MBIE is paying Taranaki for an iwi project lead, Fran Davey, and
four technical advisors who are iwi members.' I request the amount MBIE has paid
Taranaki to date (13 June 2021) for this purpose, and the amount MBIE has budgeted to
pay Taranaki for this purpose until this cooperation is complete..
In response to the first part of your request, please find attached the agreement between MBIE
and Te Kāhui o Taranaki Iwi. Please note that some information from within this agreement has
been withheld under the fol owing sections of the Act:
9(2)(a)
to protect the privacy of nature persons
9(2)(j)
enable a Minister of the Crown or any public service agency or organisation
holding the information to carry on, without prejudice or disadvantage,
negotiations (including commercial and industrial negotiations)
In response to the second part of your request, any information regarding payments made to Te
Kāhui o Taranaki Iwi up to 13 June 2021 in relation to this agreement have been withheld in ful
under section 9(2)(j) of the Act.
I am satisfied that, in the circumstances, the withholding of this information is not outweighed
by other considerations that render it desirable to make it available in the public interest.
