Re: Nursing strike - staff update - 8 June 2021
Hi
I know it does sound antagonistic but that is the rule for all people on strike, they and their cars are not
supported to be on site. All unions know this and while it is disruptive for individuals to have to move their
cars I can't change the rules set by unions and employers and agreed across all sectors.
As you mentioned this would be difficult to enforce, and you will note that I have not mentioned how it
will be enforced.

Hi Sue
I don’t support this strike however I am concerned your parking rules will
1. Make it more likely nurses will be late for their 7pm restart, further delaying care of patients and
extending the burden on other frontline staff.
2. Add an unnecessary degree or antagonism (makes the DHB look petty and quite frankly makes me feel
embarrassed as a staff member).
3. Violate the terms of the parking agreement which mention nothing about strikes. Staff have already paid
for parking whether they strike or not.
4. Be unenforceable anyway - how can anyone tell if someone parking is a nurse on strike or a member of
public visiting a family member or a nurse not striking just coming on shift.
Kind regards

Waikato DHB nurses, healthcare assistants and some midwives who are
members of the NZNO will be striking tomorrow from 11am to 7pm.

Parking – No parking onsite for striking nurses in all hospital campuses.
Nurses who come to work in the morning and then go on to strike will need
to move their cars from the carpark as they go on strike. The same for
nurses on strike and then recommencing the remaining component of their
shift at 7pm, cannot bring your car on site until the strike period is complete.
