Subject: RE: Car parking response
The reminder to not use staff parking while on strike is to encourage compliance with national employment law in
relation to strike action. When on strike presence on site is not encouraged. It is not policy generated by the DHB.
This would apply only during the period an individual is on strike. Any union member commencing or recommencing
a shift during the notified strike period would not be considered on strike at that time.
We encourage you to contact the regional NZNO representative Jenny Chapman ([email address]) if
you would like further confirmation.
From NZ Herald I've been shown an email that was sent by Waikato DHB management to staff informing them that there
would be no parking on site for striking nurses in all hospital campuses. Nurses who come to work in the
morning and then go on strike will need to move their cars from the carpark as they go on strike. The
same for nurses on strike and then recommence the remaining component of their shift, cannot bring
their car on site until the strike period is complete, the email says.
One nurse said it's disrespectful, unsupportive and petty as there is no shortage of carparks.
Does the DHB management have any comment to make in response?
