Thank you for your correspondence of 30 May 2021. You requested 
 
• Please provide correspondence by email or text addressed to the Police 
Commissioner, or Police Minister, including Waka Kotahi, and/or MP Julie 
Ann Genter regarding Bike Auckland's Liberate the Lane rally at Pt Erin 
on Sunday 30 May and information regarding plans to ride across the 
bridge as part of the protest? 
• When was a decision made to close the two the northbound lanes of 
Auckland Harbour Bridge and have a police presence at the onramp and 
to close the on-ramp. 
 
Your request has been considered in accordance with the Of icial Information Act 
1982 (OIA). As Police does not hold copies of correspondence sent to other 
agencies, this response pertains only to correspondence received by the Police 
Commissioner and his office. 
 
Police transferred the relevant parts of your request to Waka Kotahi and the 
Minister of Police, for their direct response. Police could not transfer your request 
to Julie Anne Genter, as she is not subject to the OIA. 
 
• Please provide correspondence by email or text addressed to the Police 
Commissioner and information regarding plans to ride across the bridge 
as part of the protest? 
 
Enquiries have been made with the Commissioner’s office in respect of whether 
any correspondence, emails, or texts were received to his office. There is no 
record of any communications of this nature being received at the 
Commissioner’s office. 
 
• When was a decision made to close the two the northbound lanes of 
Auckland Harbour Bridge and have a police presence at the onramp and 
to close the on-ramp. 
 
The decision to close the two northbound lanes was made during the protest on 
30 May 2021. The decision to have Police presence on the Curran Street onramp 
was made in the weeks leading up to 30 May. The decision to close the onramp 
was also made on the day of the event.
