Thank you for your email of 17 May 2021 requesting the fol owing under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
I would like to request a list of vacancy (ministerial appointment only, e.g. board member,
Lay member, Trustee etc) that the nomination period has been closed but still under
consideration by the Ministry or relevant Minister.
In your list, can you please included the date that vacancy been advertised, what method
you have used to publicly advertise the position and when the vacancy been closed as well.
Also, I would like to know if you have any future opening in 2021. e.g. the position that
will call for nomination in the year of 2021.
Generally speaking, how you publicly call for nomination and what platform you are using
to ensure the public awareness of your state sector board vacancy.
In response to your request, the Ministry for the Environment (the Ministry) has col ated the
relevant information into the table attached to this letter.
General y speaking, the Ministry follows the Public Service Commission guidelines for board
appointments and inductions when cal ing for nominations. These can be found at
www.publicservice.govt.nz/resources/board-appointment-guidelines/. Some positions have requirements that are covered by specific legislation; for example, section
5G of the Climate Change Response Act 2002 sets out the requirements for the Nominating
Committee to meet when making nominations (see the table below for details).
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Office of the Ombudsman of my

Nominations currently with the Minister
Upcoming nominations in 2021
Environmental Minister Parker has called for nominations for positions on

the board of the Environmental Protection Authority. The

cal for nominations has been advertised on the Ministry
website and the government jobs website and a link to the
Ministry advertisement has been shared on LinkedIn. The
advertisement has also been shared with the nominating
agencies (Te Puni Kōkiri, Ministry for Women, Ministry for
Pacific Peoples and Office of Ethnic Communities) and
Treasury.
The closing date was 20 June.

Climate Change None
The Nominating Committee for the Climate Change
Commission
Commission will be calling for nominations to address the
terms of two board members which are expiring in
December 2021.
The requirements for the Committee in making
nominations are set out in section 5G of the Climate
Change Response Act 2002. Before nominating a person
for appointment, the Nominating Committee must—
(a) publicly call for expressions of interest in being
appointed; and
(b) consult any person or group who may have an interest
in being a member of the Commission, including—
(i) iwi and Māori representative organisations; and
(i ) any person or group that the Minister has identified as
having an interest.
The Ministry does not hold any information regarding how
the Committee intends to publicly cal for nominations
and what platform it wil use to ensure public awareness
of board roles.
Fiordland
Four Guardians roles were advertised from 26 May - 28
None
Marine
June 2020 in the Southland Times, Otago Daily Times and
Guardians
Advocate South publications as wel as on the Fiordland
Marine Guardians website. The Fiordland (Te Moana o
Atawhenua) Marine Management Act 2005 (MMA) which
established the Guardians requires that a minimum of five
Guardians reside in the Otago/Southland region, hence the
advertising in these areas.
The Ministry sought a nomination from Te Rūnanga o Ngāi
Tahu for the fifth role as the MMA also requires one
Guardian to be nominated by Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu.
