Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 22 April 2021 to Hon Kris Faafoi, 
Minister of Justice, about the Disputes Tribunal.  Your request was transferred to the Ministry of 
Justice (the Ministry) for response as it is more closely connected with the functions of the Ministry.  
I am responding as Group Manager, Courts and Tribunals, Regional Service Delivery. 
 
Your request was for the fol owing: 
 
“Why when I purchase a service from a GST registered Incorporated Society they are able to convince 
the Disputes Tribunal that they cannot hear my dispute and I need to go to the High Court and seek 
Judicial Revue. If I purchase a service from a GST Registered trader who is not incorporated with the 
Inc Society the Disputes Tribunal can hear my dispute.” 
 
The information you have requested is not held by the Ministry. This is because you are seeking an 
answer to  a question as opposed to specific documents and the Ministry does not hold any official 
information in response to this request. Therefore, your request has been refused under section 
18(g) of the OIA as the Ministry does not hold this information and there are no grounds for 
believing that the information is held by another department, Minister of the Crown, organisation, 
or local authority subject to the OIA.
