I refer to your email of 23 February 2021 in which you request the following under the Official
Information Act 1982 (OIA):
I request the number of strategic goods export permits granted to New Zealand
companies over the period 2018 to 2020, per country of the end user.
For clarity, I am looking for a response in this format:
Country of end user:⠀
# of permits granted 2018-2020:
Country A ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
X permits
Country B⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Y permits
And so on for every applicable country.
On 19 March 2020 we advised you that an extension to 8 April 2021 was required, due to the
need for further consultation. Thank you for your patience while this process was concluded.
The information you have requested is attached, in an Excel spreadsheet. For each country, we
have provided data, broken down by year, setting out whether the permit was granted as a
single permit, or as part of a General Consent (i.e. multiple permits).
Please note that we may publish this letter (with your personal details redacted) and enclosed
documents on the Ministry’s website. You have the right under section 28(3) of the OIA to
seek a review of this response by the Ombudsman.
