Thanks Warwick,
Kia Ora Adam & Marsha,

Quick responses from your questions;

1.  Frequent The cable car operates every 10 minutes. During peak times, we depart more
frequently (ie: 5 minutes)… peak times is when we have full terminals, so the departure
frequency is increased to match the demand which is observed on the day.
2.  Quick The journey takes between 3-5 minutes, depending on how many stops it makes
along the way. As a comparison, the #22 bus, which has a similar pickup / drop off point,
takes more than 20 minutes
3.  reliable Our reliability metrics have been greater than 99% for several years… often in the
99.9% range. We are closed on average 1 week a year for annual maintenance.
4.  high-capacity  At capacity, the cars can take 80 pax each (80 uphill and 80 downhill)… if we
ran quick trips the capacity could be doubled

Some other points worth noting.

We are entirely electric, so an environmentally friendly solution to move passengers.
Whilst Lambton quay is congested, the Cable Car provides an easy solution to move passengers up
the hill and create a mini-hub which could service Kelburn, Karori, Wilton and beyond.

Let me know if this is sufficient info or if you need any further details on specific points

Hi Warwick.

Thanks for your email.

For context I’m looking for some data on the cable car as part of our work on the National Policy
Statement on Urban Development 2020.

This requires us to enable medium density development within a walkable catchment on ‘rapid
transit stops’ (as defined below).

rapid transit stop means a place where people can enter or exit a rapid transit service,
whether existing or planned

rapid transit service means any existing or planned frequent, quick, reliable and high-
capacity public transport service that operates on a permanent route (road or rail) that is
largely separated from other traffic

We need to understand if the Kelburn Cable Car meets the above definitions for the purpose of the
draft spatial plan we’ve just finished consulting on.

I’m after some info on the current (and future) state of those criteria. Detailed below is the type of
information I’m after.

1.  frequent (thinking info on both peak and off peak times)
2.  quick (thinking journey times)
3.  reliable (thinking stats on number of days or hours down each year, reliability and
punctuality)
4.  high-capacity (thinking stats on #pax that can be carried)

Cheers

Adam.

Adam
I have the annual figures going back several years (below). Historically, this has been a seasonal
business with summer (particularly during cruise ship season) being a busy time.  If you can give me
some more clarity on what you’d like this may help.  I can put you in touch with Cable Car to
provide more details

Cheers
Warwick

Hi Warwick.

I’m after some statistics on the Kelburn Cable Car including it’s capacity and patronage.

Are you able to help me with this and put me in touch with someone who can help? I have
contacted GWRC but they have said they don’t hold this data.

Cheers
