I refer to your Official Information Act request transferred to district health boards by the Ministry of
Health on 19 October 2020. Your questions and Hawke’s Bay District Health Board’s (HBDHB) response is
provided below:
1) What is the maximum bed occupancy in ICU (intensive care units) at HBDHB.
Hawke’s Bay DHB’s ICU maximum bed occupancy is 11 beds. An additional 12 ICU-level beds, located
outside of the Intensive Care Unit, can be activated if required.
2) What has been the bed occupancy rate (% of beds occupied in ICU) by week / month (which ever
time period data is available), for the period 15th March 2020 to 1st October 2020.
Please refer to the table below for ICU occupancy rates by week for the weeks beginning 16 March
2020 to 28 September 2020.
