Re: public use dustbins 
 
I refer to your email, which we received on 05 October 2020, requesting information about 
public use dustbins. 
  •  How many public use dustbins have been installed over the last 3 years in the 
Auckland region. 
•  How many public use dustbins have been replaced over the last 3 years in the 
Auckland region. 
 
Waste Solutions 
Our Waste Solutions department have advised that there have been 131 new litter bins 
installed. Out of those 131 bins, 69 were replaced in the past 3 years. 
 
Decisions pertaining to the release of this information have been made by Parul Sood, 
General Manager Waste Solutions. 
 
The Waste Solutions departments figures are separate from our Community Facilities bin 
numbers (from when they took over streetscapes work in 2019 and their own Parks bins) and 
Auckland Transport bin numbers (for their Park and Ride and transport hubs-Britomart etc). 
 
Community Facilities 
The table below details the approximate number of bins we have installed and replaced broken 
down by bin type. Street bin numbers are only available from July 2019, as these assets were 
handed over from Auckland Transport to Auckland Council at this time.

of your query directly. 
 
Should you believe Auckland Council has not responded appropriately to your request, you 
have  the right  by  way  of  complaint,  under  section  27(3)  of  the  LGOIMA,  to  apply  to  the 
Ombudsman to seek an investigation and review of the decision.
