Local Government Official Information And Meetings Act 1987
Botanic Gardens Water Usage

Thank you for your request dated 26 August 2020 about water usage at the Botanic
Gardens.

Our response to your request is set out below.

“Can you please provide the total (mains) water usage for the entire garden and
nursery areas (i.e. excluding the visitor centre, staff and washroom facilities, and
cafe) for each month over the preceding six years/ 72 months.”

Auckland Botanic Gardens covers 64 hectares and is home to over 10.000 plants from
around the world.

As well as incorporating sustainable stormwater management, we are also reusing our
water. This reduces the amounts taken and discharged from the city water supply and saves
on the water bill. More information about this can be found at Auckland Botanic Gardens.

Please find attached details of water usage from January 2015 to July 2020. Note there are
three accounts associated with the Botanic Gardens.

We are unable to break down water usage to just the garden and nursery areas prior to
2019. However, with the addition of new meters, we can provide an approximate percentage
of water consumption over the last year for each area of the botanic gardens.
