File No. DOIA 2021-0015
23 July 2020
Edward Grove
[FYI request #13203 email]
Dear Mr Grove
Thank you for your email of 1 July 2020 requesting the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
Between approximately 1996 and 2002 a Standards New Zealand committee was examining, and
liaising with the forestry industry regarding, whether the "reduced properties" of "New Crop" (i.e.
second rotation) radiata pine met the requirements of the then existing timber grades, - I would like
to receive copies of all submissions to the Standards committee on the issue, and any
responses/analysis/determinations made by the committee.
On 20 July 2020, you confirmed that the Standards Committee would likely have been considering
standards NZS 3631:1988 and/or NZS 3602.
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has considered your request under the
provisions of the Act. This letter is to notify you that MBIE is refusing your request under section 18(e)
of the Act, as the information requested cannot be found, despite reasonable efforts to locate it.
As you are aware, the information you have requested relates to legacy agencies from approximately
20 years ago. Unfortunately, due to the age of the information, it is likely not held by MBIE anymore.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision, in
accordance with section 28(3) of the Act. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely
