Thank you for your email of 2 May 2020, asking for the fol owing information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act) for the 2019/20 financial year:
1.
The total amount ACC paid for treatment costs.
2.
The amount ACC paid for each of acupuncture, chiropractic, osteopathy, and physiotherapy
services.
3.
The total number of ACC claims.
4.
The total number of ACC claims that involved each of acupuncture, chiropractic, osteopathy, and
physiotherapy services
You also requested that updates be provided for the 2018/19 financial year.
Some treatment cost information you requested is publicly available
For Question 1, the total treatment cost information we had previously provided was from figures
contained in our annual reports. The totals were calculated by adding the fol owing costs:
• Medical treatment
• Hospital treatment
• Public Health Acute Services
• Dental Treatment
• Conveyance for treatment
This particular cost information is contained in the
Underwriting result within the Financial Statements
section of ACC’s annual reports. Based on this, ACC’s total treatment cost for 2018/19 was $1.892 mil ion.
The 2019 Annual Report is available on our website a
t www.acc.co.nz/assets/corporate-
documents/acc8053-annual-report-2019.pdf.
The 2019/20 financial year is ongoing (until 30 June). End of year treatment cost information is therefore
not yet available. Year to date information can be found in the
Claims costs section of the quarterly
reports by adding the fol owing costs:
• Medical treatment
• Public Health Acute Services
• Elective surgery
ACC’s 2019/20 quarterly reports are publicly available at on our website at
www.acc.co.nz/resources. The
third quarterly report for 2019/20 is due to be published at the above link by mid-June and end of year
totals will be available in the annual report, expected to be published in October 2020.
Question 1 of your request is therefore declined as the information requested is publicly available. This
decision is made under section 18(d) of the Act.

Notes on tables
• Data was extracted on 13 May 2020 and may differ if re-run at a later date.
• New claims (Table 2) is the count of claims that were registered with ACC and accepted for cover in
the period. They are counted by the date they are lodged with ACC. A claim can be lodged
immediately after an injury or at a later date.
• Active claims (Tables 2 and 3) are all claims which generated a payment in the period. This includes
claims that were registered in previous years which have continued to receive ACC support. A claim
can be active over many years and appear more than once in the data. The count of active claims
includes new claims for which a payment has been made in the period.
• Financial years are from 1 July to 30 June.
