1. Karakia:
2. Trisya and Ngawini have texted each family on Tuesday 30.10.12. Also
a letter was sent home on Monday 29.10.12 with the letter for HLV 3rd
birthday. .
3. Student Learning:
Topic this term is ‘Space’, also Panui, Tuhituhi, and Pangarau.
The three units will celebrate HLV birthday together.
Star Dome trip next week.
Tamariki growing in confidence and their Te Reo. The focus
continues to be further development of their comprehension.
Reading of plays and tamariki really enjoying this. We are planning
to put on a play for parents at the end of the term.
Ngawini using a mixture of English and Te Reo in class to give
instruction.
4. Two new students have joined the unit
5. Ngawini continues to meet weekly with the other two units in the area.
6. Open to the Whanau:
How many tamariki in the unit – 14 tamariki.
Parents were asking what will happen for the year 6’s going to year
7’s in 2012. Sue said that HLV and Parakai BOT are talking to look
for a way forward with the units. There will be whanau discussions
later on down the track.
Great to see tamariki growing in confidence and their Te Reo. The
focus continues to be further development of their comprehension.
What can parents do to help the growth of the unit? (Trisya).
Ngawini’s response: To korero at home and work on reading and
explaining the readers going home every night.
Trisya asked how the Kapahaka is going – they have noted positive
enjoyment coming from the tamariki.

Trisya asked could we apply for funding from Pelorous Trust to pay
for the guitarist and waiata specialist. Ngawini and Trisya will follow
this up with Rowena.
How many are going to the birthday? Powhiri and mihi mihi then
onto the hall to cut the cake. The celebrations will finish up at
approximately 2pm.
7. Hair: Some whanau have asked if whanau will please check their
tamariki’s hair for nits as it is a problem at the moment.
8. Camp for Year 5 and 6:
12 November is the final day for payment of camp fees.
Check with Vivianne about whether Renee is going to camp.
Sue will send a repeat ‘gear notice’.

Next Whanau Hui: 5th December at 6pm. Please bring a plate and
come and share some kai.
