Thank you for your request of 9 March 2020 to the Ministry of Education for the following
information:
I request under the Official Information Act (1982) all correspondence (including emails,
memos, file notes, briefings, reports, meeting notes, SMS messages, letters, and all other
forms of correspondence) between the Minister of Education, the Chief Executive and
Secretary for Education, and the Senior Manager Secondary Tertiary Group (including those
acting in these roles) from 23/03/2018 to the date this request is acknowledged concerning
the following:
a) The rationale to not include a generic “Technology” subject in the Provisional NCEA Level
1 Subject List
b) The rationale to include the new subject “Food Science” in the Technology learning area
in place of the current Processing Technologies and Home Economics subjects in the
Provisional NCEA Level 1 Subject List
Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act). I
apologise for the delay in responding.
I am providing you with four documents within scope of your request, attached as
Appendix A
along with a document table outlining the decision to the release of these documents. Where
information has been withheld in these documents it has been withheld under one of the
following sections of the Act:
• 9(2)(a), to protect the privacy of natural persons; and
• 9(2)(f)(iv), to maintain the constitutional conventions for the time being which protect
the confidentiality of advice tendered by Ministers of the Crown and officials.
The rationale for the formation of the Level 1 Provisional List, including provisional technology
domains, is contained within the attached documents.
Please note, the Ministry now proactively publishes OIA responses on our website. As such,
