Thank you for your email of 17 February 2020 requesting the following information under the Official

In this regard I would like a data set that specifies the number of vehicles in each 2017 Area 
Unit and the number of vehicles in each area unit whose 'Motive Power' can be classified as 
either: 
- PETROL HYBRID   
- ELECTRIC    
- PLUGIN PETROL HYBRID  
- PETROL ELECTRIC HYBRID  
- ELECTRIC [PETROL EXTENDED]  
- DIESEL HYBRID   
- DIESEL ELECTRIC HYBRID  
- PLUGIN DIESEL HYBRID  
- ELECTRIC [DIESEL EXTENDED]  
- ELECTRIC FUEL CELL HYDROGEN 
- ELECTRIC FUEL CELL OTHER 
In effect the data set would like as follows:

The data you requested is being provided to you in following spreadsheet:

We have provided you with two worksheets – one details the total vehicle fleet with the electric vehicle 
breakdown as requested, and a worksheet broken down by vehicle type. 
 
It is important to note the following in relation to the information provided: 
•  Data  is  extracted  from  the  Motor  Vehicle  Register  (MVR)  and  is  current  as  at  25  February 
2020. 
•  Only  vehicles  that  are  deemed  to  be  active  (ie  have  plates  issued  and  have  not  been 
deregistered)  and  had  a  current  licence  to  travel  on  New  Zealand  roads  as  at  25  February 
2020.

•  Electric Vehicle Types are defined as the following:

•  The  area  unit  of  a  registered  vehicle  is  not  necessarily  the  area  in  which  it  operates  or  is 
based. 
•  The total number of vehicles includes specified vehicles.
