Good afternoon,
As outlined in previous communication, DairyNZ will be making a submission on the Essential Freshwater proposals, on behalf of all dairy farmers. It will be based on science and evidence, and we will have our key points finalised to share with you before the
31 October submission deadline.
While we have formed
our initial positions on the Essential Freshwater proposal, it is the detail and evidence we are finalising now to ensure DairyNZ’s submission best influences the final outcome. Our water quality scientists, policy experts and economists are working hard
on that detail, which includes a complete economic impact analysis, as well as feedback we have received from you too.

It’s important you have your say
Your submissions are just as important as ours. We have created an easy to use submission template below and encourage you and all your colleagues, neighbours and dairy farmer friends to use it. We only have one chance to influence the outcome and it’s important
our collective voice is heard.
The template is based on DairyNZ’s initial position on the Government’s proposals and was created in response to requests from dairy farmers. It’s a good basis for your submission but we encourage you to tailor it so it’s personal to you and your farm business.
For example, you can include comments on what you are already doing on-farm to protect water quality as well as how the proposed changes will personally impact you, your farm and your community.

Essential Freshwater meetings
In recent weeks, more than 800 dairy farmers have attended the DairyNZ Essential Freshwater events (Southland, Canterbury, Waikato, Northland) which provided information about the proposal, including what it might mean for dairy farmers and how to get involved
in the process. Further meetings and submission drop-in sessions are coming up.
DairyNZ also held two online webinars for those who couldn’t make the events, attracting about 300 people, which have been recorded. View
