Thank you for your email of 7 November 2019 to Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children
(Oranga Tamariki), requesting the following information under the Official Information
Act 1982 (the Act):

Please provide, in full, the 2019 report into Oranga Tamariki reviewing practices,
policies, procedures for the uplift of children and recommendations.
On 4 December 2019, you were advised that the timeframe for responding to your
request had been extended, in accordance with the Act.
On 23 December 2019, we advised you that we had decided to grant your request, in
part, and that we were in the process of preparing the information for release.
Please find enclosed with this request, a copy of the Practice Review. You wil note that
some information has been withheld under the following sections of the Act:
• section 9(2)(a), in order to protect the privacy of natural persons;
• section 6(c), where the making available of that information would be likely to
prejudice the maintenance of the law, including the prevention, investigation and
detection of offences, and the right to a fair trial;
• section 9(2)(h), in order to maintain legal professional privilege; and
• section 9(2)(ba)(i), as the information is subject to an obligation of confidence,
and, if released, could prejudice the supply of similar information in the future.
We apologise for the time it has taken to provide you with this response. This is a
complex and sensitive matter with a child and whānau at the centre of it. It was
important that we careful y considered the impact of the release of any information on
the child and their whānau.
