Subject: Tertiary student fares
Hi
I understand you are (or may be!) attending a meeting tomorrow night about student fares. I thought it might be
helpful for you to have some information at your finger tips in case you are asked questions, so the attached
document is a brief summary of:
• Our costing of a tertiary discount
• The history of the student discount in Auckland
• The student discounts available around the country.
Our next report on the fare structure will go to the Economic Wellbeing Committee in early April. Officer advice to
date on a student discount has been to focus on the possibility of a bulk purchase scheme, or on an off-peak fare
available to everyone.
We have promised the community that we will undertake another round of consultation on the final fare structure, but
we are still evaluating the options for when this should occur - one option would be to include the consultation on the
Regional Public Transport Plan later in the year / early next year, or we could consult on some of the different parts of
the fare structure separately as final proposals are clarified.
Regards
Tass
