Thank you for your request made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), which 
we received on 25 October 2019. You requested the following: 
1. How many overseas based student loan borrowers are there?
2. How much is the total amount owing by overseas based student loan borrowers?
3. How much is the total amount of principal owing by overseas based student loan
borrowers?
4. How much is the total amount of interest owing by overseas based student loan
borrowers?
5. How many overseas based student loan borrowers are in default?
6. How much is the total amount owing by overseas based student borrowers in
default?
7. How much is the total amount of principal and total amount of interest owing by
overseas based student loan borrowers in default?
The  Act  requires  that  we  advise  you  of  our  decision  on  your  request  no  later  than  20 
working days after the day we received your request. Unfortunately, it will not be possible 
to meet that time limit and we are therefore writing to notify you of an extension of the 
time  to  make  our  decision  by  10  working  days.  We  will  respond  to  your  request  by  9 
December 2019. 
The  extension  is  required  because  consultations  necessary  to  make  a  decision  on  your 
request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original 
time.  
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
