Official Information Act request: Feminism 2020
I am responding on behalf of the University to your Official Information Act request in relation to the Feminism
2020 event and subsequent cancel ation of the venue booking.
Information release
The information is in multiple parts to manage the file size for distribution and for ease of navigation. There are
approximately 1400 pages of information. A guide to the information contained within each part is as follows:
• PART 1a and 1b: These files include information in relation to the event booking, correspondence to and
from health and safety staff, and general correspondence received by the University expressing views about
the about the venue booking. It also includes the Health and Safety Risk Assessment, and a summary of the
legal advice received.
(Please note that PART 1 and PART 3 have been split into 2 files [a and b] due to file size)
• Part 2: This file includes various information relating to communications, information sent and received by
communications staff, social media monitoring information, and general correspondence received by the
University fol owing the cancel ation of the event booking.
• Part 3a and 3b: These files include al other general miscel aneous correspondence sent and received by
members of the Senior Leadership Team and others, who were involved in the management of the issues
surrounding the venue booking and subsequent decision to cancel that venue booking.
Please be advised of the fol owing information that is withheld:
1. Redactions have been applied to protect the privacy of individuals, section 9(2)(a) and to protect
information which would be likely unreasonably to prejudice the commercial position of the security
firm who provided a quote for services, which is included in the information released (9(2)(b));
2. The confidential legal advice received by the University has been withheld in order to maintain legal
professional privilege (section 9(2)(h)). A summary of that advice is included in Part 1a.
3. Security risk assessment and advice is withheld as disclosure of that information would inhibit the
future exchange of free and frank opinions that are necessary for the effective conduct of public
affairs, 9(2)(g)(i);
4. Information generated in as part of the OIA decision-making process is withheld under 9(2)(g)(i) as
disclosure would be likely to inhibit staff from providing free and frank advice in relation to OIA
requests in the future.
