Thank you for your request, in which you asked:

I would  like to know  how  many police wing  patron we have  now  and  who they 
are, if you have their bio it would be great. Also I would like to know what is the 
selection  process  to  determine  who  going  to  become  the  next  patron  for  next 
wing? Can public nominate people and who is in charge of this patron selection 
programme? Does patron's travel cost to police college meets by the Police? any 
other benefit patron received while doing patron business and what exactly patron 
do?” 
 
I  have  considered  your  request  in  accordance  with  the  Official  Information  Act 
1982. 
 
The  selection  of  wing  patrons  is  a  process  carried  out  in  the  Office  of  the 
Commissioner.  We  receive  recommendations  from  various  quarters.  There  is 
nothing to prevent a member of the public reaching out to suggest any individual 
they believe might make a suitable candidate. We aim to select wing patrons who 
are experienced leaders in their communities, who have the skill, motivation, and 
temperament  to  be  good  mentors  and  role  models  to  Police  recruits.  The 
appointment of a patron to a recruit wing is made by the Commissioner of Police. 
 
Wing  patrons  are  expected  to  attend  wing  ceremonies,  such  as  the  pōwhiri  for 
recruits, their attestation, and graduation.  We also encourage our patrons to have 
as  much  contact  with  their  Wing  as  possible  to  provide  mentoring  and  ongoing 
liaison.  Their travel costs to attend wing events may be covered by Police where 
reasonable, but there are no other benefits attached to the appointment.

short biographies of some of our most recent wing patrons.
