OFFICIAL  INFORMATION  ACT REQUEST 
I refer to  part  one of your official  information  request for  "what the  response  cost  civil 
defense  (and other  responding  organisations,  if possible)"  to  "put  out  the fires  around 
Pigeon  Valley,  Tasman this summer'.  This request  was partially transferred to the 
Ministry for Primary Industries  (MPI)  by  the  Department  of the  Prime  Minister and 
Cabinet  (DPMC)  on  1  May 20 1 9. 
MPI incurred the following costs  in  responding  to the Tasman  Fires,  which are 
released to  you under the  Official  Information  Act  1 982  (OIA).

Staff costs  have been estimated  based  on hours reported by the 52  MPI staff  and 
contractors involved in the  response,  including  specialist veterinarians  and animal 
welfare experts. The support costs  reflect the funding  provided to  the Tasman  District 
Council and the Top of the  South  Rural  Support  Trust to  assist them in  helping 
farmers to protect stock and recover  from  the damage caused by the fires. Please 
note  that all  amounts  include an  additional twenty  percent  to reflect  the  costs  which 
are still  being  processed or are yet to be filed.
