New Zealand Police did not have the information requested.
From: Thierry Thomas
18 September 2012
Dear New Zealand Police,
I am wanting to find out the exact number of people who have been
killed by deer hunters, while these hunters have been hunting.
I am looking at the time period between 2002 to present day.
Yours faithfully,
Thierry.

Hi Thierry,
Thank you for your request received under the Official Information Act
1982 on 19 September 2012 regarding information on the number of people
killed by deer hunters while deer hunting.
Police does not publish statistics on victims. Also, Police official crime
statistics collect information according to the legal definition of
particular offences. Details about what activity the offender is into are
not specified ingredients of homicide offences. Therefore this part of
your request is refused pursuant to section 18(g) of the Official
Information Act 1982 as the information is not held.
Police does publish a "Homicide Victims Report" at the end of each
calendar year where you can find useful demographic information about
victims of homicides (ie weapons used). The latest report is available on
the Police website (http://www.police.govt.nz/statistics/201...).
Although I have not been able to provide the information you requested, I
trust this response is still helpful. In any event, as you may already be
aware, you have the right, under section 28(3) of the OIA, to ask the
Ombudsman to review my handling of your request.
Sincerely
Gavin Knight
